Houston Hosts Tom Tellez Invitational

Cougars return home to kick off final home meet of season
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Track & Field teams wrap up the 2019 regular season when they host the Tom Tellez Invitational, on May 3 at the Carl Lewis Complex.
ABOUT THE TOM TELLEZ INVITATIONAL
Action at the Tom Tellez Invitational is scheduled to begin in in the field with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin at 1 p.m. Running events will kick off at 5:45 p.m., with the women's 4x100-meter relay, and the meet will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 8:45 p.m.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
On the men's side:
Ranked first in The American, Amere Lattin will compete in the 110-meter hurdles as he sits with a time of 13.40. Devion Wilson will also compete as he ranks second in The American with a time of 14.06.
Conference leader, Lagarious McQuirter will compete in long jump trying to remain in first as he sits with a mark of 25-8 (7.82). Trumaine Jefferson, ranked third in the conference, will also compete in long jump where he stands with a mark of 25-1.75 (7.66).
Felipe Valencia, sits atop the American Athletic Conference and will compete in shot put with a conference-leading mark of 60-9.25 (18.52). Triston Gibbons will join Valencia as he sits in third with a mark of 58-1 (17.70).
Sitting at fourth-overall in the league. Nicholas Alexander will compete in 200-meter dash heading into the weekend with a time of 20.76. He will be joined by Brandon Taylor and Nicholas Alexander with times of 10.18 and 10.35.
Cameron Laverty and Christian Gilmore will compete in the 800-meter run as they rank fourth and sixth in the conference with times of 1:50.79 and 1:51.73, respectively.
The pole vault will be highlighted by an appearance from Ben Percefull as he sits in fourth in The American with a height of 16-6.75 (5.05).
Brendon Rivera and Colin George will compete in high jump with the fifth and sixth best marks in the league at 6-10.25 (2.09) and 6-9.75 (2.08).
Ranked fourth and fifth in The American, Triston Gibbons and Kenneth Sessums, will compete in the discus throw with marks of 179-4 (54.67) and 165-9 (50.52).
The 4x100-meter relay squad made up of John Lewis III, Edward Sumler IV, Terence Ware and Jordan Booker remain at the top of the conference in the event with a time of 38.17.
The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Thomas Alcorn, Wilson, Kenneth Pree and Brandon Adams will make an appearance in the race this weekend.
On the women's side:
Priscilla Adejokun will compete in the hammer throw as she ranks No. 7 in the conference with a mark of 196-1 (59.77).
Samiyah Samuels will compete in long jump as she sits in third in The American with a mark of 20-7.25 (6.28). Samuels will also compete in the 100-meter dash as she ranks eighth in the conference with a time of 11.58.
Hailey Pollard, ranked fifth in the conference, will compete in the discus throw as she sits with a mark of 159-6 (48.61). Ryan Pickering will also compete in the event, heading into the race sitting at sixth in The American with a mark of 156-2 (47.59).
Whitney Ochiam will compete in the 100-meter hurdles as she currently holds the sixth-best time in the conference with a time of 14.07.
The 4x400-meter relay squad made up of Ochiam, Brianna Nolen, Payge Side and Erin Derrow will compete as they try to better their No. 6 spot with a time of 3:43.18.
The 4x100-meter relay team made up of Samuels, Cecila Tamayo-Garza, Justice Henderson, Essance Sample will compete in the event, holding a conference-leading a time of 44.11.
