Cougar seniors excel in final home meet of 2019 season
HOUSTON – The Houston Track & Field teams concluded its final home meet of the 2019 outdoor season with 23 podium finishes at the Carl Lewis Complex.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
The Cougars started off the day in the field, as Nora Monie who was competing unattached, claimed a first-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 51.00 (15.54m).
In the javelin, the Cougars would take the top two spots as Hawa Wague finished in first-place with a mark of 86-5.00 (26.34m) and Kelsey Mussio closed out the event with a mark of and 59-1.00 (18.00m).
Priscilla Adejokun continues to have a stellar outdoor season for the Cougars claiming a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 188-4.00 (57.40m). The sophomore continued to have a great outing as she came in third in the women's shot put with a mark of 46-10.25 (14.28m).
Senior Phedenia George-Mosbey led the Cougars in the women's long jump taking home third-place in the with a mark of 18-2.50 (5.55m).
The women's 4x100-meter squad comprised of Samiyah Samuels, Cecilia Tamayo-Garza, Justice Henderson and Essance Sample ran to a first-place finish in the event at 44.64.
Whitney Ochiam would notch a podium finish in the 100-meter hurdles, taking second-place at 14.64.
The Cougars took third-place in the women's discus, behind a top finish from Nora Monie who was competing unattached with a throw of 174-06 (53.18) Ryan Pickering finished in third-place with a throw of 151-01 (53.18).
Kristin Powell concluded her final collegiate home meet with a top finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. Powell finished the race with a time of 12:29.41.
ON THE MEN'S SIDE
Lagarious Mcquirter would secure a second-place in the men's long jump, his best attempt coming on his second try where he posted a mark of 25-4.50 (7.73m).
Blake Contreras closed out his final collegiate home meet with a first-place finish in the 1500-meter run, leading the field by eight seconds and finishing with a lifetime best time of 3:52.48. Following close behind in second-place was Christian Gilmore making his debut in the 1500-meter run and finishing at 4:00.89.
In the high jump, Brendon Rivera cruised to a top finish with a mark of 6-08.75 (2.05)
In the hurdles, Amere Lattin would lead the charge on the men's side with a third-place finish at 13.73.
A pair of Cougars would take second and third-place in the men's 400-meter dash, led by Tyrell Valentine in second-place at 48.03, followed by Naaman Outing at 48.44.
With a wind-aided time of 10.21 Nicholas Alexander cruised into second-place in the 100-meter dash.
Cameron Laverty scorched the track in his 800-meter dash, closing out his final collegiate home meet at 1:51.19 for first-place.
Triston Gibbons wins the men's discus with a throw of 172-01 (52.46) and was followed up by a third-place finish from David Perry with a throw of 150-03 (45.81).
In the final race of the day, the men's 4x400-meter relay squad made up of Thomas Alcorn, Devion Wilson, Kenneth Pree and Brandon Adams took first-place at 3:15.52.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will begin postseason action next week at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The meet is slated for May 10-12 in Wichita, Kan.
