Cougars have won six-straight and seven of past eight
HOUSTON – Coming off a dramatic, seventh-inning comeback victory, the University of Houston Softball teams wraps up its 2019 road slate with a trip to Orlando, Fla., for an American Athletic Conference series against UCF from April 26-28.
The Cougars (32-15, 8-6 AAC) are looking to carry their momentum from Tuesday's thrilling win into the weekend series with the Knights (28-17, 7-8 AAC), as Houston has now won six-straight contest and seven of its past eight overall.
UCF is one of Houston's most familiar foes, having faced the Knights 40 times in the 13-year history between the programs. With the UCF holding the all-time series lead by a slight margin of two games, the two teams have been nearly neck-and-neck since Head Coach Kristin Vesely took the helm of the Cougar program.
In the past two years, each squad has won three games, with Houston holding a slim edge in the scoring department, 27-24. The last time Houston traveled to Orlando was in 2017, where the Cougars rallied in the seventh inning of the rubber match to come back and win the series, 2-1, marking the first time Houston claimed a season series over UCF since 2013.

Junior infielder Arielle James roped a double down the left field line to score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh against Texas State, which proved to be the difference in the 4-3, comeback victory on Tuesday night. The win improved Houston's record to 10-1 on the year against opponents from the Lone Star State, as the Cougars moved to 8-1 this season in midweek competitions.
James' double in the top of the seventh capped off a 2-for-4 performance, posting a game-high two RBIs in the process. She was joined by senior catcher Brooke Vannoy, who tied a career-high with three hits, as those with multiple hits in the contest for Houston.
Senior outfielder Maya Thomas extended her hitting streak to six games with her base hit in the fifth inning. Coming out of the bullpen for the fifth time this season, senior pitcher Presley Bell earned her 11th win of the year, tossing 4.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits during that stretch.
Oh My, Oh My
After earning three All-Conference accolades in her first three seasons, Maya Thomas is making a case for herself to earn the fourth All-Conference award of her career this season. Since the start of conference play on March 22, Thomas has been on an absolute tear, bolstering a .440 batting average in 18 games.
In her past 10 outings, Thomas has posted a .500 mark and has recorded five multiple-hit performances. Thomas' most recent stretch has seen her post a blistering .722 (13-for-18) average in her past five games, where she has recorded two perfect outings, including a career-high 4-for-4 game against UConn (4/20).
Barking at the Opposition
With three American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll honors already under her belt, Sarah Barker has put together a senior year to remember, emerging as one of Houston's most lethal weapons in the lineup.
She leads the Cougars and ranks seventh in the conference with her .364 batting average and has batted .372 in her past 15 games. During that same stretch, she has tallied 16 hits and has recorded the team's second-highest slugging percentage of .465.
MIlestone Tracker
Senior pitcher Savannah Heebner continues to etch her name in the record books, as her 61 career wins rank second all-time behind only Angel Shamblin (2005-08), who holds the program record with 94 career victories.
With her start behind the dish against USF (March 31), senior catcher Brooke Vannoy reached the 200 mark for games she's appeared in for her career. She became the second player this season to have appeared in 200 games in a career, joining senior outfielder Maya Thomas.
