PALM HARBOR, Fla. – University of Houston sophomore Alexander Frances posted a 1-under 70 during Monday's American Athletic Conference Championship Second Round to lead the Cougars and move into a tie for 15th at 145.
Competing on the 7,125-yard, par-71 Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, Frances began his day off No. 10 and quickly moved under par with a birdie on the 575-yard par-5 11th hole.
After six straight pars, he closed his front nine with a bogey on No. 18 but regained that stroke with a birdie on the 560-yard, par-5 first hole. After a bogey on No. 3, the Stege, Denmark, native drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 3-4 and closed out the second day with four pars and a bogey.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 298 and stood in ninth place at 595.
Senior Matt Williams and freshman Braxton Watkins were tied for 26th at 149, while junior Zach Tracy was tied for 37th at 152. Junior Logan Young was tied for 44th at 154.
Memphis held the team lead at 568 to stand six shots in front of SMU. Temple (580), UCF (580), USF (583), Cincinnati (586), UConn (591) and ECU (592) rounded out the Top-Eight leaders.
Individually, SMU's McClure Meissner fired a 66 for the second straight day to stand atop the leaderboard at 10-under 132. Memphis's Brad Bawden finished the Second Round in second at 139 with Albin Bergstrom (USF) and Austin Squires (Cincinnati) tied for third at 140.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
Tuesday's Final Round begins at 6:30 a.m. (CDT). The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Wichita State, beginning at 6:51 a.m. (CDT).
Young begins the day for the Cougars off No. 10 at 6:51 a.m. (CDT), Monday, with Tracy (7 a.m. CDT), Watkins (7:08 a.m. CDT), Williams (7:17 a.m. CDT) and Frances (7:25 a.m. CDT) following.
