
Houston Falls to Temple Late in 76-65 Decision

Harris becomes third player to season to notch 1,000 points
PHILADELPHIA – The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team fell behind late, falling 76-65 to Temple, Tuesday afternoon at the Liacouras Center.
Double-digit efforts from Dorian Branch, Serithia Hawkins, and Angela Harris wasn't enough as Houston moves to 11-11 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.
The Cougars got going early from long-range with Dorian Branch scoring the field-goal of the contest from behind-the-arc. A three-pointer from Octavia Barnes would give the Cougars a one-point edge heading into the first media timeout of the game. Branch continued to have the hot hand for the Cougars with back-to-back buckets following the break.
Both teams headed into the second quarter neck and neck after Serithia Hawkins made a four-point play to close out the opening frame. Hawkins and Branch continued to spread the floor for Houston with two straight possessions ending in made three-pointers before the halfway point of the second quarter. The Cougars would hold the Owls to 1-of-4 from the field over the final four minutes of the quarter and trail 38-37 at the half.
Both teams came out strong in the third quarter, trading baskets throughout the frame until Temple made back-to-back baskets to build a four-points cushions with under a minute to play in the period. Houston would finish the third quarter with an 83.3 percent free throw shooting percentage and head into the fourth quarter trailing by three.
Temple would make three of its first four buckets of the fourth quarter to extend its lead over Houston. With under five minutes to play Angela Harris would connect on her first three-point shot of the contest, and become the third Cougar this season and 26th in program history to notch 1,000 points.

Houston: Branch posted a team-high 17 points, followed by Hawkins with 14 points. Hawkins also posted 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season, and the 22nd of her career. The game is Branch's second straight game in double-figures. Harris now has 1,005 career points after finished with 11.
Temple: The Owls had three players in double-figures led by a game-high 33 points from Mia Davis. Davis also led all players with 17 rebounds.
