Cougars square up with ECU for lone meeting of the season
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team returns home to the Fertitta Center for a 12 p.m. meeting with American Athletic Conference foe ECU.
Saturday's contest will be prefaced by a all-sport clinic in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The contest can be heard live by fans via the home for Houston Women's Basketball Radio, UHCougars.com/wbbradio. Live statistics are also available through SideArm Stats, and the official Twitter account of Houston Women's Basketball, @UHCougarWBB, will offer updates throughout the game.

Here are five names, numbers, news items and storylines you need to know about Saturday's American Athletic Conference game against ECU:
ROAD WOES – The Cougars will face face an ECU team that is 1-8 on the road after picking up its first road win on Feb. 14 at SMU.
CLEANING THE GLASS – Senior forward Serithia Hawkins has maintained a presence in the paint for Houston. Hawkins is averaging 7.4 boards a game, and is on pace to become only the third Cougar with 900+ boards.
FROM DOWNTOWN – The Cougars continue to be a 3-point threat under Hughey. After setting the school record for 3-pointers made in each of the last two seasons, Houston has made 169 triples so far in 2018-19.
SCORE OFTEN, SCORE FAST – Houston is a tough team offensively, currently ranking second in the conference in scoring offense with 70.2 points per game, only second to UConn
H-TOWN LOCKDOWN – Houston continues to play lockdown defense this season. The Cougars have forced at least 15 turnovers in 21 of its 23 games and their 20.78 forced per game ranks 25th nationally.
SERIES vs. ECU
Saturday's meeting is the 20th all-time between the two teams in a series that dates back to 2002.
Houston leads 12-8 in the all-time in the series, winning three of the last five, including a 97-81 win last season in Houston, Texas.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Houston enters Sunday's game with a 12-11 overall record and a 6-4 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Cougars have posted a 4-5 record at home this season, winning their last three.
Houston's Jasmyne Harris paces the Cougars in points per game with 16.2 per contest, while Angela Harris also scores in double figures at 10.2 per night. Harris scored a season-high 23 points in the win over Wichita State, becoming the third Houston player to reach 1,000 career points this season against Temple on Feb. 5. Octavia Barnes has scored at least one three-pointer in the last 14 games for the Cougars; posting double-figures in four of the last five contest.
Houston is averaging 70.2 points per game on 40.4 percent shooting from the field and a 30.1 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 68.3 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 40.9 percent and 31.4 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Serithia Hawkins leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 7.4 rebounds per game after matching a season-high with back-to-back games of 12 against Wichita State and Cincinnati. She recently became the sixth Cougar in program history to score 1,000 points and pull down 800 rebounds.
Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country this season. The Cougars rank third in The American in steals (238), as well as in steals per game (10.3), and second in turnovers forced per game (20.78). The Cougars' steal numbers rank 29th and 40th in the nation, respectively, while the turnovers forced average places them 35th in the NCAA.

ECU enters Saturday's contest with a 13-11 overall record and a 4-7 mark in American Athletic Conference play. ECU most recently defeated SMU in a 64-54 decision in Dallas. ECU is 1-8 when playing on the road this season.
The Pirates have a pair of players averaging double figures in scoring this season, including a team-best 13.1 from Lashonda Monk. Raven Johnson scores 12.9 per game to rank second on the team. ECU has won three of its last four games.
ECU is allowing opponents to score 64.6 points per game, allowing 40.2 percent shooting from the field and 32.4 percent from long-range.
