Houston Returns Home with Undefeated Conference Mark

Cougars start American action with 6-0 record
HOUSTON – With its best start to conference play in 19 years under its belt, the University of Houston Volleyball team returns to the Fertitta Center for a pair of matchups against ECU and Cincinnati.

The Cougars are coming off its third consecutive 2-0 weekend where they took down Wichita State and Tulsa in four sets on the road. Houston's wins over the Shockers and Golden Hurricane extended its season-high winning streak to seven matches, having won 12 of its past 17 matches overall.

Defense has played a pivotal role for Houston, with at least four Cougars reaching the 10-dig plateau in each of the wins last weekend. At the net, freshman middle blocker Rachel Tullos continued to make her presence felt at the net, pacing the team with 13.0 blocks in the two contests. Tullos enters this weekend's action leading the nation with 39 solo blocks on the year.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
NEW GAMEDAY PROCEDURES
Those looking to watch the Cougars in action in 2019 are now advised to park in the Stadium Garage on Holman Street as well as Lot 16B on the southeast corner of Elgin and Cullen in front of Moore's School of Music.

Fans can park in both areas for $5, which will be open two hours before first serve. On days where other events are occurring on campus, $5 parking lots will still be available at locations to be determined later.

To enter the Fertitta Center, doors will only be open at the Holman Street entrances, where fans can purchase single-game tickets for as low as $5. Fans can buy tickets in advance now by either clicking here or calling (713) GO-COOGS.

Along with the list of prohibited items, also new to Houston Volleyball fans in 2019 is a Clear Bag Policy, which is being incorporated to help provide a safer environment for the public and to expedite fan entry into the Fertitta Center. The UH Clear Bag Policy strictly limits the size and types of bags that are permitted into the Fertitta Center.

Items such as backpacks, large bags and diaper bags are not permitted. Fans are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags. However, the following will be permitted:

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- With its 6-0 start in American Athletic Conference play, Houston is off to its best start in league action since 2000, when the Cougars began Conference USA action 8-0.
- Houston is no stranger when it comes to going the distance, as the Cougars are just one of a handful of teams in the country to have competed in nine five-set contests. Overall, Houston is 6-3 in such matchups, five of which came in five-straight matches.
- The Cougars are the only school in the conference to have more than one player win a Player of the Week honor, having already won three. This is the first time Houston has had three different players earn a conference Player of the Week (Abbie Jackson, OPOW-9/9; Katie Karbo, DPOW-9/23; Megan Duncan, OPOW-9/30) honor since 2006.
- As one of the best liberos to come through the Houston program, Karbo continues to the climb the charts in the record book. Karbo enters the weekend leading the nation with 471 digs on the year, and leads all Division I active players with her 2,190 career digs, which ranks second in program history.
- Junior setter Abby Irvine leads the Houston's balanced attacked, as her 13 double-doubles on the year are tied for most in The American. The Cougars are 9-4 on the when she posts a double-double.

- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap. These small clutches are subject to search.
- An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the entrance by arena personnel.
