HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's tennis team is looking to extend its 3-match winning streak this weekend when they host No. 51 New Mexico on Saturday, March 5, followed by No. 73 Brown on Sunday, March 6. The match against New Mexico is scheduled for 1 p.m., at the John E. Hoff Courts, while the Brown match will begin at 11 a.m., at the Houston Country Club.
The Cougars have played three consecutive home matches securing victories in each. The powerful duo of Tina Rupert and Maria Cardenas remains undefeated in doubles competition this season with a record of 5-0, while Despoina Vogasari continues to find success on the top singles court where she is 15-8 overall.
While the New Mexico Lobos are 5-4 this season, the team is still in the hunt for a victory on the road. New Mexico's last five matches have been against nationally ranked opponents with the Lobos defeating No. 56 Denver (4-3) and No. 51 Utah at home. Playing on the top court for the Lobos is Andrea LeBlanc, who is 19-8 overall this season.
Much like New Mexico, the Brown Bears are looking to pick up their first victory on the road and hold a 9-3 overall record this season. Trading off at the top two courts for Brown is Alyza Benotto and Dayna Lord. Benotto and Lord have also made a strong duo on the doubles court helping to score many doubles points for the Bears. Brown University will begin their journey to Houston by challenging the Rice Owls on Saturday.
