Cougars drop for match of the season to Sun Devils, 4-0

TEMPE, Ariz. — The #29 University of Houston Tennis team dropped its first match of the 2026 campaign, falling 4-0 to #12 Arizona State on Friday evening at Whiteman Tennis Center.

The Cougars (11-1, 2-1 Big 12) dropped the doubles point for the first time this season as #89 Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli fell to Sara Svetac and Vivian Ovrootsky, 6-2 on court one. Arizona State (10-3, 2-1 Big 12) clinched the doubles point on court two as juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina fell to Aiya Nupbay and Lily Taylor, 6-4 on court two.

Arizona State doubled the lead as #19 Emilija Tverijonaite defeated junior Elizaveta Morozova on court one, 6-3, 6-0.

Ovrootsky added to the Sun Devils' lead when she bested Sepa, 6-1, 6-4 on court three.

The Sun Devils clinched the match on court five as Aiya Nupbay defeated junior Petja Drame, 6-4, 6-1 to hand Houston its first loss of the season.
