DENTON, Texas - The season started in fine fashion for the University of Houston women's basketball team as they beat North Texas, 46-42, on Friday night at The Super Pit. The win gives new head coach Ronald Hughey a victory in his first official game leading the UH program.
"We defended hard and we did a great job pressuring North Texas," said a victorious Hughey after the win. "We really took North Texas out of their rhythm with our relentless pressure, and solid rebounding also carried us to the win."
Defense and rebounding did indeed make the difference for Houston. The Cougars (1-0) held North Texas (0-1) to 27.1% shooting and won the battle of the glass, 48-32.
