HOUSTON - With the start of the spring semester Tuesday, University of Houston golf head coach Jonathan Dismuke announced an addition to the Cougars' spring schedule.
The Cougars will play host to Houston Baptist and Conference USA-rival Rice during the Redstone Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 4. The one-day, 18-hole event is scheduled to tee off at 10 a.m., Feb. 4, at Redstone Golf Club.
As during regular NCAA competition, the Houston-area teams will use 5-man lineups with the low four scores counting toward the team total.
This will be the team's first competition since finishing in a tie for seventh at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas on Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2011.
Houston originally was scheduled to open the spring season on Feb. 13-14 during the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. However, Dismuke and assistant coach Chris Hill elected to use their final remaining competition day as allotted per NCAA rules to host the Redstone Challenge.
The Cougars returned to class Tuesday morning and will begin their regular practice schedule later this week.
Houston competed in four tournaments during the fall season with three straight top-10 team finishes to end the year. The Cougars also grabbed a share of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic during the second fall tournament of the season.
