Golf Wraps Up 2009 Border Olympics in Laredo

LAREDO, Texas --Battling the cold and playing through the rain, junior Jackie Lindsey fired a 77 in the third round to card a team-best 8-over-par 224 lead the University of Houston golf team through the 2009 Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
Lindsey finished in a tie for 26th place in the individual race, but the Cougars fired a three-day team total of 936 to finish 15th.
Baylor claimed the team title, firing a 298 in the final round to hold of Arkansas, who finished in second place seven strokes behind the Bears with an 844 team score. Rounding out the top three was Lamar with a final team score of 886.
Claiming the individual title was UTA's Bobby Massa after he fired a 5-under-par 211. Texas State's Jeff Gerlich was the only other golfer to finish under par, carding a 1-under 215 to finish second.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Matt Eschenburg fired a 2-over-par 74 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 20th.
The Cougars will return to action when they compete at the National Invitational Tournament on March 22-23 in Tucson, Ariz.
