Women's Basketball Falls 69-47 Against Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Houston women's basketball team suffered a bad shooting night and dropped a 69-47 decision to Xavier in the National City Xavier Invitational, Friday at the Cintas Center.
Houston (1-4) dropped its fourth-straight game and struggled offensively from the opening tip. UH was 18-for-78 (.231) for the game and 2-for-22 (.091) from behind the arc. The Cougars were held under 50 points for the first time since a 65-42 loss to USC on Dec. 16, 2006.
Xavier (3-1) won its third-straight game behind the 16 points and 18 rebounds from Ta'Shia Phillips. Amber Harris also had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Harris also had five blocks.
Tye Jackson (Houston, Texas/Westfield HS/Purdue) scored a team-high 15 points while Courtney Taylor (Crockett, Texas/Crockett HS) added a team-high nine rebounds.
UH's defense was solid all night, forcing the Musketeers into 22 turnovers. UH, who had only eight turnovers, converted XU's giveaways into 12 points.
The Cougars trailed 28-19 at the half after missing their first 12 shots and shooting 23.5 percent (8-34) in the first 20 minutes. UH wasn't on the scoreboard until Taylor sank a jumper with 11:41 to go making the score 13-2.
XU's Phillips had 13 rebounds in the first half, compared to just 15 for UH's whole team. The Cougars played solid defense and forced the Musketeers into 12 turnovers, converting those into seven points.
UH continues tournament play against Liberty at 5 p.m. CST before closing out the weekend against McNeese State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
