CINCINNATI, Ohio - A late second-half comeback came up short and the University of Houston women's basketball team fell, 70-61, to Liberty on the second day of the National City Xavier Invitational, Saturday at the Cintas Center.
Houston (1-5) dropped its fifth-straight game after struggling offensively. The Cougars shot 25.7 percent (19-74), were just 2-19 (.105) from behind the three-point line and were 21-for-32 from the charity stripe.
Liberty (4-1) got double-doubles from Megan and Moriah Frazee and outrebounded UH 56-47. Megan Frazee had a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds while Moriah Frazee finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Liberty pulled away with a 5-0 run in the next 27 seconds to put the game out of reach. The Cougars were held without a field goal in the final 2:31 and converted their final eight points on free throws.
For the second-straight game, UH played solid defense, limiting Liberty to a 33.3 percent (18-54) shooting percentage and forcing the Flames into 20 turnovers. The Cougars converted those turnovers into 17 points.
Courtney Taylor (Crockett, Texas/Crockett HS) finished with a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds. Cobilyn Hill (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS) had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Tye Jackson (Houston, Texas/Westfield HS/Purdue) saw her streak of 49-straight starts come to an end as the senior had nine points in 28 minutes off the bench. Jackson has been mired in a season-long shooting slump, firing at a 28.4 percent (29-102) clip.
The Flames had UH in a 10-point hole 5:08 into the second half as UH missed nine of its first 10 shots. The Cougars scored only three field goals over the next eight minutes and trailed by 15, 57-42, with 6:17 left in the game.
A three by Molly Frazee with six seconds left in the first half knotted things up at 29 apiece heading into halftime. Frazee's triple was Liberty's only field goal in the final 8:26 of the half.
Trailing 22-13 with eight minutes left in the half, the Cougars closed out the period on a 16-7 run that was closed out with Jackson's three-pointer with 24 seconds on the clock.
On the defensive end, UH forced Liberty into 10 turnovers and an 8-for-26 (.308) shooting percentage. The Cougars converted those turnovers into 10 first-half points. Houston was handcuffed by a 7-for-14 (.500) effort from the charity stripe in the opening half.
