Autumn Hammel joined the University of Houston Athletics Department as assistant director for sports medicine in June 2022.
She was elevated to her current position as associate director of sports medicine in May 2023.
In her current role, Hammel works with Houston Volleyball. She collaborates with team physicians, sports performance and coaching staff and athletics trainers to manage injury care and facilitate safe return-to-play protocols.
Hammel also has worked with Swimming and Diving during her Houston Athletics tenure.
A native of York, Pa., Hammel received her bachelor's degree, graduating magna cum laude, from West Virginia in 2020.
Following graduation, she served as a graduate assistant athletics trainer at Youngstown State, working with Women's Volleyball, Women's Swimming, Women's Lacrosse and Cheer, while earning her master's degree health in human services in 2022.
Hammel is a licensed athletics trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
She lives in Houston.
