Cougars set institutional Academic Progress Rate record for second straight season; Eight programs posted perfect 1,000 scores in 2024-25 academic year
HOUSTON – For the second straight season, University of Houston Athletics set a school record with an institutional Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 992 in a report released by the NCAA on Tuesday afternoon.
With that total, the Cougars qualified as an NCAA Division I Academic Unit for the second consecutive year.
For the 2024-25 report, all 15 Houston Athletics sport programs recorded Multi-Year APR scores higher than 950 to set a school record. Three programs – Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country and Volleyball – posted a perfect multi-year APR score of 1,000 to finish among the nation's Top 10 percent in each respective report and received Public Recognition Awards for the third consecutive season.
Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Men's Golf, Women's Cross Country, Softball, Soccer, Tennis and Volleyball each led the way with perfect 1,000 scores during the 2024-25 academic year.
All sport programs also exceeded the NCAA's required minimum score of 930 for the fourth consecutive year.
Men's Basketball recorded a perfect score for the sixth consecutive year and the seventh time in the last nine seasons. Men's Cross Country reached 1,000 for the seventh straight season and for the 15th time in the last 18 opportunities.
Volleyball enjoyed its fifth straight perfect score and eighth in the last nine years while Men's Golf recorded a score of 1,000 for the fourth time in the last five years. Women's Golf reached a perfect score of the 10th time in the last 11 seasons with a score of 1,000 for the fifth straight year.
Soccer achieved a perfect score for the second straight season while Men's Track and Field finished with a score of 988, its best mark since the 2015-16 academic year.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The Division I Committee on Academics (CoA) oversees the Academic Progress Rate as part of its responsibilities with the Academic Performance Program. The CoA sets policies and recommends legislative changes to the Division I Board of Directors which has the final say on changes in Division I.
