Sophomore Alexia Duncan Adds to Houston’s Total with Win at Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships

Houston closes out day four with 815.5 points
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team collected gold at the Big 12 Conference Championship for the second time on Friday inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Alexia Duncan took home the program's second Big 12 Championship accolade after her performance in the 100-yard backstroke. The Irvine, Calif., native recorded a new Top-10 time taking over the second position with her new personal best time of 52.31. With her championship finish, Duncan automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championship.
Houston finished day four with a total of 815.5 points. #17 Arizona State continues in the top position with 1227.5 points followed by #23 Arizona (997.5), Cincinnati (615), TCU (548), Kansas (547.5), Utah (530), BYU (402), Iowa State (394) and WVU (311).
In the A-Final of the 200-yard butterfly, junior Sydney Nethercutt took home the bronze with a time of 1:57.62 followed by senior Noor El Gendy in the fourth position with a time of 1:58.80.
In the B-Final of the 200 butterfly, redshirt senior Alondra Ortiz took home the win with a time of 1:59.35 (ninth overall). Senior Landry Hadder finished the heat in eighth with a time of 2:02.79 (16th overall).
A pair of Cougars landed in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke with junior Evelyn Entrekin touching the wall in fourth in the A-Final (59.83). Senior Virag Peter competed in the B-Final securing third with a time of 1:00.59 (11th overall).
Rounding out the individual events, three student-athletes made their way into the 100-yard backstroke finals. Duncan took home the win in the A-Final with junior Elizabeth Jimenez touching the wall in sixth with a time of (53.42).
Freshman Rylee Simoneaux finished out the B-Final with a second-place finish (10th overall) recording a new personal best time of 55.77.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, senior Liya Goupil, senior Jenna Kerkman, Jimenez, and sophomore Sienna Bruner brought home sixth with a time of 1:30.57.

Houston begins its final day of competition inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. CT and finals starting at 5 p.m. CT. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
