Houston Finishes Third at Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship

Cougars conclude Big 12 Championship action with four individual titles
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team closed out the Big 12 Conference Championship in third place on Saturday inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center.Â

Houston closed out the meet with a total of 1194.5 points, clinching third overall. #17 Arizona State claimed the win with 1660.5 points followed by #23 Arizona (1442.5), Cincinnati (770), Kansas (739.5), TCU (733), Utah (693), BYU (524), Iowa State (520) WVU (409).Â

The Cougars collected two wins on the final day bringing their final total to four Big 12 individual titles.Â

Senior Virag Peter collected the first win in the 200-yard breaststroke A-Final with a personal best time of 2:08.11. Peter's time automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships taking place March 18-21. The Peces, Hungary, native broke her previous school record set in 2024.Â

Junior diver Michelle McLeod took home the second title of the day in the platform diving competition. The Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada, native was recognized as the Big 12 Diver of the Meet following her performance.

Freshman diver Maisy Woloszyn earned Big 12 Freshman Diver of the Meet after her win in the 3-meter brought home the first Big 12 Conference individual title in program history.Â

A trio of Cougars started off the final day of competition in the 200-yard backstroke A-final. Junior Elizabeth Jimenez brought home bronze in the event with a time of 1:55.08 followed by sophomore Alexia Duncan in fourth (1:55.52) while freshman Rylee Simoneaux finished sixth overall (1:55.52).Â

Houston landed three swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle B-final with senior Liya Goupil securing second and ninth overall, with a time of 49.73. Sophomore Sienna Bruner took home the fifth position (13th overall) touching the wall at 49.84, with senior Jenna Kerkman rounding out the group in eighth (16th overall) with a time of 50.48.Â

Freshman Emma Overall earned third place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:32.70.Â

Junior Evelyn Entrekin competed in the 200-yard breaststroke A-final bringing home an eighth-place finish with a time of 2:18.92.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Goupil, Bruner, Kerkman and junior Manita Sathianchokwisan closed out race with a fourth-place finish in 3:19.63.Â

The Houston Diving team will head to College Station, Texas, to compete at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. The meet is set to take place from March 9-11 inside the Rec Center Natatorium at Texas A&M.Â
