Hunter Scores 20 Points, Pitts Records Double-Double Against Kansas State

Cougars drop a close 69-65 road battle against Wildcats
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Behind 20 points from redshirt senior guard Kyndall Hunter, the University of Houston Women's Basketball team dropped a close battle against Kansas State, 69-65, inside Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday evening.
Houston (6-13, 0-8 Big 12) had two scorers in double figures. Hunter tied her season high with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Senior guard TK Pitts recorded her second career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Kansas State (11-9, 4-3 Big 12) had four scorers in double digits, with Nastja Claessens leading the Wildcats with 16 points.
Despite a slow start, the Cougars were able to get the offense going late in the first quarter. Kansas State opened the game on an 8-2 run, leading into the media timeout. Following the break, the Wildcats made a trip to the free throw line to extend their lead to 10-2. Hunter scored her first 3-pointer of the game to spark Houston's 11-2 run, giving the Cougars a 13-12 lead at the end of the quarter.
Kansas State regained the lead twice in the second, but Houston answered each time. The Cougars built a four-point advantage before a Wildcat steal in the final seconds trimmed Houston's lead down to 24-22.
After going 0-5 from behind the arc, Kansas State scored four 3-pointers in the third quarter. With three ties and three lead changes in the period, the Wildcats carried a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, 47-41.
Houston opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to pull within two before the teams traded baskets through the middle of the period. Hunter knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and later added five points to tie the game at 62-62 with 1:27 remaining. Following a timeout, Kansas State outscored Houston 7-3 in the final minute to earn its second win over the Cougars this season.
