Junior Grant Doggett, freshman Jayk Altic stand 1-2 in individual standings entering Tuesday’s Final Round
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in second, and junior Grant Doggett and freshman Jayk Altic stood 1-2 in the individual standings following the first 36 holes of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday evening.
The Cougars opened the tournament with a score of 279 and followed that with a total of 283 in the afternoon session for a 36-hole score of 562 on the 7,184-yard, par-72 course at Westwood Golf Club.
Host Rice held a two-stroke advantage over the Cougars entering Tuesday's Final Round.
Doggett fired back-to-back rounds in the 60s, including a First-Round 66, and finished the first day at 11-under 133 to finish one shot ahead of his teammate. Making his collegiate debut, Altic added consecutive rounds in the 60s as well, including a 67, with birdies on the first two holes of his Cougar career.
Starting his day off No. 2, Doggett moved under par with a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole but endured a double-bogey 6 on the 445-yard seventh hole. Fortunately, that would be the last blemish on the Beach City, Texas, natives morning scorecard.
Doggett drained birdies on five of the next seven holes with back-to-back efforts on Nos. 10-11 and added a birdie at No. 3 with an eagle on the 542-yard 18th hole in the First Round.
He enjoyed similar success in the afternoon. Doggett sank a birdie on his first hole in the Second Round and overcame his lone bogey in the afternoon with three birdies over the next four holes.

In the afternoon, Altic rallied from a slow start which saw him make bogeys on two of his first three holes. However, four straight birdies at Nos. 5-8 returned him to red numbers with additional birdies on No. 11 and No. 15 for a score of 8-under 136.
Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen joined Doggett and Altic among the Top-10 leaders and was tied for ninth at 2-under 142. The Daxi, Taiwan, native posted a 70 in the Second Round.
