
Doggett Captures Title to Lead Men’s Golf at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Junior sets tournament records for low score to par, 54-hole low and margin of victory

As a team, Houston posted a score of 5-under 283 in the Final Round on the 7,184-yard, par-72 course at Westwood Golf Club and finished second with a two-day total of 19-under 845.
It marked the program's second straight Top-Two finish after sweeping the Argent Financial Classic team and individual titles on Sept. 7-9 at Squire Creek Country Club in the season opener.
This marked the first time the Cougars finished among the Top Two in their first two tournaments to open a season since the 1984-85 NCAA national champion squad won each of its first four events.
Starting Tuesday's play off No. 1, Doggett jumped out to a fast start with three birdies on his first four holes.
The Beach City, Texas, native ran into trouble with three birdies in a six-hole stretch late in his first nine but rebounded with four birdies in the final seven holes to finish the Final Round with a 68 and close the tournament at 15-under 201.
With his performance, Doggett set Bayou City Collegiate Classic records for low score to par (-15), 54-hole score (201) and largest margin of victory (7 strokes). He also set career bests with low 36 holes (133) and topped his previous best finish of fourth at the UHV Claud Jacobs Invitational on Feb. 24-25.
Doggett became the 18th Cougar to win the program's 26th individual championship during Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke's 17-year tenure at Houston.
Making his collegiate debut, freshman Jayk Altic finished third with a score of 7-under 209. After shooting 67-69 in the first two rounds, the Houston native drained four birdies in the Final Round.
Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen enjoyed his third straight round of par or better with a 70 Tuesday and tied for 10th at 4-under 212. The Daxi, Taiwan, native drained birdies in four of his first seven holes to start the day.
Senior Kevin An tied for 16th at even-par 216 while senior Bryant Hiskey II – playing as an individual finished 19th at 218. Senior Hudson Weibel and junior Chi Chun Chen tied for 20th at 218. Making his Houston debut after transferring from Utah State, junior Enrique Karg tied for 66th at 230.
Rice won the team championship with a score of 839. Following the Cougars, Louisiana (866), Lamar (874), Abilene Christian (877), UT Rio Grande Valley (880), ULM (881), UT Arlington (883), Utah Valley (883) and Valparaiso (885) completed the Top 10.
Rice's Lucas Boandl finished second at 208 while Henry Daly (Rice), Louis Anceaux (ULM) and Malan Potgieter (Louisiana) tied for fourth at 210.
UP NEXT
Following the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the Cougars open October when they tee off at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on Oct. 6-8.
Houston then wraps up its fall season at The Bryson Invitational on the Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C., on Oct. 13-15.
The Cougars will enjoy the holiday break before opening the spring season when they play host to the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 16-17, 2026. The Cougars welcome HCU, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, Troy, UT Rio Grande Valley, Wichita State and Wright State to the tournament.
