PREVIEW: Houston Wraps Road Trip at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – For the first time this season, the University of Houston Soccer team will venture outside Texas for a matchup against Colorado at 2 p.m. CT, Sunday from Prentup Field.

It is the first meeting between Houston (6-0-1, 1-0-1 Big 12) and Colorado (7-1-2, 1-0-1 Big 12), featuring the two highest scoring offenses in the Big 12 Conference and the 6th and 7th highest scoring offenses in the country.

LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars continued their undefeated start to the season with a 1-1 draw against rv Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday evening.

Reigning Big 12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the week Samira Minor scored Houston's goal in the 60th minute before a Texas Tech penalty kick was awarded in the 83rd minute. Macy Blackburn converted the equalizer as the two teams shared the result.

ABOUT THE COUGARS

Head Coach Ben Williams is in his first season leading the Cougars. Williams is in his second season as a head coach in the college ranks.
Graduate Jaden Humbyrd, junior Kyrsten Kizer and sophomore Casey Maddox were named captains for the 2025 season as voted on by their teammates.
The Cougars feature a revamped roster with 15 newcomers including 11 transfers and four freshmen.
Houston has 27 goals on the season with 14 different goal scorers.
Adelhia Ghonda and Samira Minor lead the Cougars with four goals each.
Houston leads the Big 12 Conference with 194 shots taken. The Cougars are averaging 21.56 shots per game through nine matches.
The Cougars rank top 10 in the country in seven different categories: Corner Kicks Per Game (9), Goal Differential (5), Goals-Against Average (7), Points Per Game (9), Scoring Offense (7), Shots Per Game (4), Shots on Goal Per Game (3).
Samira Minor was named the Big 12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the week. It was the first time a Houston Soccer player earned multiple conference weekly awards.
Graduate Alex Whitcraft earned her 60th career start to tie Jazmin Grant (2017-20) for 10th in career starts in program history.
Houston is one of two schools in the country undefeated in both football and soccer along with Memphis.

ABOUT COLORADO

Colorado is 7-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play.
The Buffaloes are sixth in the country and first in the conference in total goals scored with 31.
Hope Leyba leads Colorado with 12 goals on the season.
Colorado is led by Danny Sanchez who is in his 14th season leading the Buffaloes.
Sanchez owns a career 316-132-59 record with a 152-87-41 record in Boulder.
