Cougars score 10+ in fourth straight game, sweep first series

After clubbing multiple home runs in three straight games, the Cougars (11-4) plated double-digit runs without hitting a home run for the first time this season. All nine starting hitters recorded a hit in the game with eight of the nine recording a hit and an RBI.
Houston had not scored 10+ runs in four consecutive games since April 2002 when the Cougars beat Texas A&M 10- on April 9, 2002 and then swept Memphis April 12-14 by scores of 15-1, 15-3 and 16-6.

Houston scored 10 runs in the second inning on six hits which marked the most runs scored in an inning since April 8, 2023, at Wichita State.

Ten different Cougars recorded hits in the game to aid Houston's run scoring in the first, second and fourth innings.

Juniors Jake Tatom and Tyler Cox each recorded a pair of hits with Cox leading the team with three RBI.
With the sweep of Grambling State (4-10), Houston has matched its 15-game start from a year ago.

NEXT UP
The Cougars will travel north to Huntsville, Texas, on Wednesday for the second game of the Don Sander Cup at Sam Houston at 6 p.m. before returning home to open Big 12 Conference play against Texas Tech Friday-Sunday at Schroeder Park.
