Cougars win two singles courts, fall to Cyclones, 4-2
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis team dropped its Sunday afternoon match to #52 Iowa State, 4-2, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Iowa State (9-5, 3-3 Big 12) claimed the doubles point as Anna Kuearum and Cristina Ramos defeated fifth-year Santa Strombacha and sophomore Elizaveta Morozova, 6-2, on court one. Junior duo Gabriela Cortes and Sophie Schouten fell to Julia Camblor and Gabriela Felix, 6-1, on court two.
Sophomore doubles pair Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa led, 4-3, before the match was abandoned.
The Cougars (3-9, 0-6 Big 12) tied the match as Schouten won her second-straight singles match on court five by defeating Suzanie Pretorius, 6-0, 6-3.
Houston jumped in front as Krokhotina defeated Cristina Ramos, 6-3, 6-3, on court four.
After a back-and-forth battle in set one Iowa State tied the match when Sepa fell to Julia Camblor, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2.
The Cyclones took back-to-back three set matches on courts three and one, respectively, as sophomore Heta Nuutinen fell to Mari Paz Vilar, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, and #97 Ana Kuearum defeated Strombacha, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
