Swimming & Diving Collect Seven First Place Finishes Against Kansas

Cougars fall to Jayhawks in second dual meet of the season, 153-147
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team scored seven first place finishes and 26 podiums against the Jayhawks on Saturday at Robinson Natatorium in their second dual meet of the season.
Sophomore Mariana Cote started the day off strong for the Cougars securing the first top spot of the day in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:02.62) with freshman Emma Overall coming in third (10:09.05).
The Cougars claimed the top three spots in the 100-yard backstroke with junior Elizabeth Jimenez coming in first (54.98) followed by sophomore Alexia Duncan in second (55.06) and sophomore Regina Torres in third (55.76).
Junior Evelyn Entrekin scored the top position in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of (1.01.10) with senior Virag Peter coming in third (1:02.92).
Senior Noor El Gendy and redshirt senior Alondra Ortiz touched the wall side-by-side in the 200-yard butterfly with times of 1:59.90 and 2:00.31, respectively.
Senior Liya Goupil led the way in the 100-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 50.77 with senior Jenna Kerkman coming in third (51.46).
Jimenez and Duncan battled again in the 200-yard backstroke with Jimenez landing the top spot (1:59.37) followed by Duncan (1:59.46) and freshman Rylee Simoneaux (2:02.90).
Peter scored the final first place finish of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.96.
UP NEXT
Houston will host play host for the Big 12 East Showdown at CWRC Natatorium Jan. 16-17. The meet is expected to begin at 10 a.m. Teams in attendance will include Iowa State, Cincinnati, West Virginia and TCU.
