Cougars, Sun Devils meet for the first time inside the Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program looks to pick up its first Big 12 Conference win of the season as it hosts Arizona State at 6 p.m., Saturday inside Fertitta Center for its Fight the Literacy and First Responders Night.
First responders in attendance will receive free admission into Saturday's game. Fans attending the Houston Men's Basketball game at 1 p.m., vs. BYU, can present their ticket stub at guest services or the ticket office and will receive a complimentary general admission ticket and parking voucher for the women's basketball game against Arizona State.

THE GAME
- Houston closes out its homestand against Arizona State on Saturday.
- Houston leads the all-time series, 2-0.
- The Cougars and Sun Devils meet for the first time in Houston.
- Houston Head Coach Ronald Hughey has won both meetings against Arizona State (W, 50-48, Feb. 22, 2019; W, 68-60, Nov. 25, 2021).
- Arizona State and Houston will face each other once during the regular season.
- Despite a third quarter surge, Houston dropped its Big 12 Conference home opener, 74-55, against #12/11 Kansas State on Wednesday afternoon.
- Houston forced Kansas State to 19 turnovers, the most for the Wildcats this season. Graduate guard Laila Blair and graduate guard Eylia Love scored 16 and 12 points, respectively.
- After struggling from the 3-point line in the first half, Blair and sophomore guard Kierra Merchant each drained an outside shot to force a Wildcat timeout as Houston was within six.
- Following a couple of Kansas State buckets, the Cougars used a 7-0 run to get within one. Glenn knocked down a pair of free throws and Bostock completed a three-point play to tie the game at 51 heading into the final quarter.
- After Houston took its first lead of the game with a free throw from Love, the Wildcats went on a 23-3 run to take the victory.
- The Cougars return six players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Avalon Miller, Maliyah Johnson, Peyton McFarland and All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention, Laila Blair.
- Blair (212) has her eyes set on Houston's all-time 3-pointers made record of 226.
- On Dec. 4, 2024, Blair moved up to fourth on Houston's all-time scoring list with 18 points against UT Arlington. She is 29 points away from taking sole possession of third place.
- Houston welcomes five transfers this season including Leilani Augmon (Troy), Summer Bostock (Maryland), Ashley Chevalier (Texas Tech), Eylia Love (Louisville) and Kateri Poole (LSU).
- Avalon Miller (Achilles), Maliyah Johnson (ACL) and Kateri Poole (ACL) will miss the season after suffering season-ending injuries leaving Houston with nine available players.
