Tennis Opens Adamovic Era With Sweep over UT Arlington

HOUSTON – After enduring a 15 minute weather delay, the University of Houston Tennis team opened the Head Coach Katarina Adamovic era with a 4-0 sweep over UT Arlington on Saturday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

The Cougars (1-0) took advantage of the shorthanded Mavericks (0-1) to secure the first win of the season. Houston just needed one court to take a victory in doubles. Sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa defeated Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Mialy Ranaivo, 6-2 to clinch the doubles point.

Before doubles play concluded, juniors Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes were knotted at four with Ana Paula Jiminez and Ioana Dumitrescu.

Houston once again had the advantage in singles play as court six was forfeited by UT Arlington. Schouten was quick to defeat Dumitrescu on court four, 6-3, 6-1, while Krokhotina took care of Nika Novikova, 6-3, 6-0, to clinch the match for the Cougars.

Three other Cougars claimed the first set. Sophomore Elizaveta Morozova won the first set, 6-2, and was tied at four in the second. Sepa and Ranaivo were tied at a set apiece as Sepa took the first, 6-1, but dropped the second, 5-7. Sophomore Heta Nuutinen won her first set 6-1, and was even at five in set two.
