
PREVIEW: Men’s Golf Opens Season at Argent Financial Classic

Cougars tee off Sunday morning at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.

Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke begins his 16th year with the Cougars as Houston makes its sixth appearance at the Argent Financial Classic.
A year ago, Houston finished fourth with a score of 7-under 857 at this tournament. All-American Santiago De La Fuente tied for second at 11-under 205, thanks to three straight sub-par rounds while current senior Wolfgang Glawe tied for 16th at 2-under 214 with a 69 in the opening round.
The Cougars return ten lettermen from their 2023-24 team, which posted four Top-Five team showings and finished sixth at the NCAA Baton Rouge, falling only three strokes shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under Dismuke's leadership, the Cougars will be represented by sophomore Chi Chun Chen, junior Hudson Weibel, Glawe, senior Laurenz Schiergen and senior Jacob Borow. Sophomore Grant Doggett will compete as an individual.
Glawe returns as the Cougars' leading performer from the 2023-24 season. The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native posted a 72.67 scoring average and tied for second on the team with 12 rounds of par or better. He finished with four Top-20 showings, including a 13th-place finish at the Big 12 Championships.
Borow finished fourth among the Cougars with a 72.94 average and tied with Glawe with 12 sub-par rounds. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native earned three Top-10 finishes and captured the individual championship at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational with a score of 16-under 200, thanks to a 65 in the Second Round.

Schiergen also competed in eight events a year ago and tied for 15th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational with a score of 1-under 213 after tying his career best with a 68 in the First Round.
Doggett enters his sophomore season in 2024-25 after opening his collegiate career with back-to-back Top-20 finishes.
Weibel competed in three tournaments before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a back injury.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 17-team field against Abilene Christian, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Little Rock, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Nicholls, North Texas, Rice, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, UAB, ULM, WKU and host Louisiana Tech.
TEE TIMES
For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee.
Borow begins the day off No. 10 at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, with Schiergen (8:30 a.m.), Glawe (8:40 a.m.), Weibel(8:50 a.m.) and Chen (9 a.m.) following. Doggett begins the tournament off No. 10 at 9:10 a.m.

Following the Argent Financial Classic, the Cougars return to action and close the month at the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill., on Sept. 29-30.
From there, Houston tees off at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas on Oct. 7-9. A year ago, the Cougars upset No. 2 seed Oklahoma in the First Round and finished fourth.
The Cougars then close their fall season at the White Sands Intercollegiate at The Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas, on Oct. 25-27.
