
Men’s Golf in Third after Argent Financial Classic First Round

Sophomore Chi Chun Chen tied for sixth with 70; Senior Jacob Borow tied for 11th at 71; Second Round tees off Monday morning
CHOUDRANT, La. – Sophomore Chi Chun Chen and senior Jacob Borow each fired sub-par scores to lead the Cougars during the First Round of the Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, Houston finished with a score of 1-under 287 and stood in third following the first 18 holes on the 7,105-yard, par-72 course.
Chen started the season off No. 10 with birdie-bogey but overcame a bogey at No. 16 with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17-18. The Taiwan native rebounded from a bogey at No. 2 to make birdie at No. 4 and closed the day with his fifth birdie of the day at No. 18 to tie for fifth with Supakorn Amornchaichan (Southern Miss), Eli Ortego (Louisiana), Will Burnham (Southern Miss) and Rafe Blankenship (WKU).
Like Chen, Borow started the season on a positive note with a birdie at No. 10 but returned to even par with a bogey on the next hole. After posting 12 pars and a pair of bogeys over the next 14 holes, the Lake Jackson, Texas, native used a strong finish to close his First Round.
Borow made birdie on the par-4 eighth hole and closed the day with an eagle-3 at No. 9 to tie for 10th eight others at 71.
Senior Wolfgang Glawe and junior Hudson Weibel were tied for 29th at 73. Senior Laurenz Schiergen was tied for 74th with a 77. Playing as an individual, sophomore Grant Doggett was tied for 85th with a 78.
Rice and South Alabama were tied for the team lead at 2-under 286. Louisiana (288), Troy (290), Little Rock (291), Louisiana Tech (291), Lamar (292), WKU (292), Southern Miss (292), Middle Tennessee (292) and UAB rounded out the Top 10.
Rice's Lukas Boandl held the individual lead with a 65 and stood two strokes ahead of South Alabama's Joshua Hill. Louis Anceaux (ULM) and Blake Keen (North Texas) were tied for third at 69.
