Cougars look to stay undefeated, win five straight against the Bearkats
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team hosts Sam Houston in its home opener at 7 p.m., Sunday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Fans in attendance will receive a free schedule magnet while supplies last.
The match can be seen on ESPN+ with Matt Pedersen (pxp), Alex Parra (analyst) and Vicente Garcia (Reporter) calling the action. Live stats for the match are available here.

LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars (0-1) dropped a closely contested match, 1-0, on Thursday at #17 Texas. The Longhorns scored in the 11th minute when the NCAA's active leader in goals, Lexi Missimo, went past sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich on a one-on-one to score the lone goal of the match.
Dietrich recorded seven saves for Houston to move her into 10th in program history in career saves.

Houston remains at the Carl Lewis International Complex to welcome Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m., Thursday for its Student Welcome Match.

- Houston is in its third season under Head Coach Jaime Frias.
- The Cougars return their two leading scorers in junior forward Cameryn Maddox (7) and sophomore midfielder Aryanna Jimison (5).
- Jimison was named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, marking the first player in program history to garner Big 12 preseason honors.
- Houston welcomes 11 newcomers to the roster, including seven freshmen and four transfers.
- Among those transfers are senior midfielder Jocelyn Alonzo, who was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team and All-Conference Second Team in 2021.
- Against Texas, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich collected seven saves to move her into 10th in career saves in program history. Dietrich is now top-10 in three other statistical categories (wins, ties and games started by a goalie).
- Sam Houston is led by Sonia Curvelo, who is in her third season leading the Bearkats.
- The Bearkats return Pam Murry, who led the team is goals (5) in 2023.
- Goalkeeper Savannah Hall made 10 starts last season, recording 56 saves.
- Sam Houston is in its second season in Conference USA. The Bearkats picked up three conference victories in their first season in their new league.
- Houston and Sam Houston meet for the 11th time.
- The Cougars have never lost to the Bearkats, holding a 9-0-1 advantage.
