Soccer Falls to Sam Houston in Home Opener

Cougars continue home slate at 7 p.m., Thursday against Stephen F. Austin
HOUSTON – The University of Houston soccer team dropped its home opener, 3-1 to Sam Houston at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Sunday evening.
The Cougars (0-2) got out to the early lead with a goal in the 11th minute as sophomore forward Kyrsten Kizer found junior forward Cameryn Maddox for the Cougars' first goal of the season.
Sam Houston (1-0-1) evened the score in the 29th minute when Gabrielle Williams found the back of the net.
In the second half, Houston outshot Sam Houston 14-4, but were unable to convert. The Bearkats took the lead in the 80th minute as Landri Townsend found herself ahead of the Houston defense.
Sam Houston would seal the game in the 81st minute off a corner kick when Jasmine Dybala scored on a loose ball.

Houston remains at the Carl Lewis International Complex to welcome Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m., Thursday for its Student Welcome Match.
