Beautae sets a new program high mark for runs in a season
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Junior Lair Beautae continued her successful season, scoring three to bring her season total to a program-record 55 runs as the University of Houston Softball team defeated Sam Houston, 11-6, in the Cougars' non-conference finale at Bearkat Softball Complex on Tuesday night.
Graduate Taylor Edwards (4-3) picked up the win in relief, tossing 2.1 perfect innings to close the game for Houston (25-26). Daryn Grams (3-6) took the loss for Sam Houston (19-29) after allowing six runs on four hits and five walks in two innings.

1st | Houston took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first, as both Beautae and Rollin scored on bases-loaded walks.
2nd | The Cougars added to the lead in the second. Beautae picked up her second run of the game as Rollin doubled to left center. Coleman followed up with a two-run home run to left before Smith crushed her fourth homer of the season two at-bats later, giving Houston a 6-0 lead.
3rd | After loading the bases with a double, single and walk, the Cougars capitalized again in the third. Beautae singled home Kennedy Thomas to start the scoring while Coleman drove home sophomore Mandy Esman on a fielder's choice, pushing Houston's lead to eight. After freshman Jordee Wilkins scored on a wild pitch, Cantu's single to right added another two runs to cap the scoring.
Sam Houston broke up the shutout in the home half of the inning. A two-out double led to an RBI single, cutting into the Bearkats' deficit, making the score 11-1 after three.
4th | The Bearkats shrunk the gap further in the fourth, using a pair of homers to plate four runs in the frame to make the score 11-5.
5th | Sam Houston's comeback ultimately fell short as the Bearkats scored one on a double to left center in the fifth, capping the scoring and giving Houston an 11-6 win.

The Cougars start their final conference series of the year on the road at Baylor this weekend. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Houston and Baylor continue the set at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, before a 1 p.m., Sunday, finale.
