Cougars come up short against in-state rival Red Raiders
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball program dropped the rubber match to Texas Tech, 5-2, at Cougar Softball Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate Taylor Edwards (3-3) took the loss for Houston (24-26, 4-20 Big 12), allowing four runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings in the circle. Maddy Wright (11-7) picked up the victory, improving Texas Tech to 28-17 on the year with an 8-13 mark in Big 12 play.

Key Innings
2nd | Texas Tech grabbed the lead with four runs in the second. A double off the bat of Kennedy Crites pushed home the first runner of the inning while Crites later scored on a single through the left side. An error later in the inning that resulted in the ball going out of play plated another pair of runners to give the Red Raiders a 4-0 edge.
6th | After the Red Raiders added another run on an error in the fifth, Houston answered in the home half of the sixth. A pair of singles and an error put a pair of Cougars in scoring position. Junior Turiya Coleman put Houston on the board, driving home Beautae with a groundout. Graduate Bree Cantu added another with an RBI double to shrink the deficit to 5-2.
UP NEXT
The Cougars wrap up their nonconference schedule with a road game at Sam Houston on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Following the midweek, Houston concludes the regular season with a three-game weekend series at Baylor starting May 3.
