Cougars struggle to contain Aggies’ offense on Tuesday night
Graduate southpaw Shelby Smith suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five runs, three earned, in 1.1 innings. The loss moved Houston to 23-24 overall on the season. Texas A&M's (38-9) Emiley Kennedy (20-7) picked up the win in relief, spinning 2.2 innings with one hit, a walk and three strikeouts.

Key Innings
2nd | Texas A&M took the first lead of the game, plating five runs in the second inning. With a pair of runners in scoring position, senior Rylen Wiggins slipped a two-RBI double into left field then scored as sophomore Kennedy Powell reached on an error. Sophomore Amari Harper immediately added another pair of runs as she tripled to right field, then scored herself on a throwing error, giving the Aggies a 5-0 edge.
3rd | Houston answered with a run in the top of the third. Three straight singles from Beautae, junior Turiya Coleman and graduate Jazmyn Rollin loaded the bases for Smith, who pushed the Cougars' first run across on a groundout to cut the deficit to four.
4th | The Cougars added another run on a Rollin sac-fly to further shrink the deficit, but the Aggies struck back in the home half of the inning. Texas A&M added a run on a single to center followed by a three-run homer of the bat of senior Trinity Cannon. Another three-run home later in the frame extended the Aggies lead to 12-2, clinching a run-rule victory for Texas A&M.
UP NEXT
Houston returns home for its final games at Cougar Softball Stadium of the season. The team's senior weekend begins at 6 p.m., Friday, before continuing at 2 p.m., Saturday and noon, Sunday. The Cougars will recognize their eight seniors before the games on Saturday and Sunday.
