Jayhawks outlast Cougars in pitching duel on Sunday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team kept it close with rv/rv Kansas, but ultimately fell to the Jayhawks in the series finale, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Paris Lehman (5-4) received the loss for Houston (19-12, 2-7 Big 12) in the circle, allowing two runs in three innings in her eighth start of the season. Kasey Hamilton (9-5) picked up the complete-game victory for Kansas (22-8-1, 7-2 Big 12).

2nd | Houston struck first with a run in the home half of the second. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases and sophomore Mandy Esman forced home a run with a groundout to put the Cougars up, 1-0.
3rd | Kansas answered the Houston offense quickly. A double, single and wild pitch resulted in a pair of runners in scoring position with none out. A single scored the first Jayhawk and advanced the other to third and with runners on the corners, a double-steal plated the second for Kansas.
7th | Stuck at a 2-1 deficit after the third, the Cougars looked to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh. After loading the bases with only one out, junior Lair Beautae grounded into a double play to end the game, clinching a 2-1 win for Kansas.

Houston remains at home on Tuesday for a midweek tilt against Prairie View A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
