PREVIEW: Softball Hosts rv/rv Kansas, Prairie View A&M

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball program continues its inaugural Big 12 Conference slate by hosting rv/rv Kansas over the weekend prior to a midweek battle against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday.

The Cougars face off against the Jayhawks starting at 6 p.m., Friday, before 2 p.m., Saturday and noon, Sunday, games.

The first 75 fans in attendance to each game during the three-game series will receive a ceramic mug. Friday's game will feature softball bingo while fans can use a $10 Triple Play Saturday promotion to receive a ticket, hot dog and water for just $10. The promotion is only available on advanced ticket purchases.

Sunday's game is the Cougars' Strike Out Breast Cancer game. In addition to a silent auction, fans can purchase an exclusive Houston Softball pink t-shirt for just $15. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fans can also donate by clicking here.

For the midweek game against Prairie View, the first 50 students in attendance will receive free hot dogs while the general public can enjoy a "Tuesday for Two" deal that includes two tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas for $18 as well as a general admission $2 ticket promotion. The "Tuesdays for Two" promotion is only available on advanced ticket purchases.

All four games will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

Houston joined the Big 12 Conference on July 1, 2023. The 2024 season marks Houston's inaugural softball season in the conference. The Cougars won their first Big 12 game in style, sealing the team's highest ranked win in program history with a 12-10 win over No. 2 Texas on March 8. The victory also continued Head Coach Kristin Vesely's streak of seasons with a win over a ranked opponent.
Houston's 94 runs tied the program record for most runs through the first 11 games, originally set in 2014.
The Cougars' 219 runs scored have surpassed the season totals from 2023, 2021, 2020 and 2001. Houston's run production is on pace to break the program record.
The team posted its best 11 game start (10-1) since 2008 when the program went 11-0. At 15-5, the team earned its best 20 game start since 2020 (16-4).
Bree Cantu's 36 RBIs so far this season rank 13th in the country and third in the Big 12.
The Cougars rank sixth nationally in walks drawn (120), sixth in scoring (7.82), seventh in on-base percentage (.439), 15th in batting average (.334) and 21st in slugging percentage (.533).
Nationally, Kennedy Thomas sits at 18th in on-base percentage (.550) and 17th in 'toughest to strike out'. Her 1.29 runs per game also sit at sixth in the country.
