Houston out-slugs Prairie View A&M for Tuesday night victory
Taylor Edwards (1-0) picked up her first decision of the season for the Cougars (20-12) with 5.2 innings in the circle, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out five. Breanna Reyna (6-5) earned the loss for Prairie View A&M (13-14) after allowing four runs, three earned, as the starting pitcher for the Panthers.

Key Innings
1st | Prairie View A&M earned a quick lead in the top of the first, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to allow a runner to score and put the Panthers up, 1-0.
Houston answered Prairie View just as fast, plating four in the bottom of the first. The first three batters of the inning reached and Cantu tied the game with the team's 20th sacrifice fly of the season. Freshman Mikalah Nitta doubled in the next at-bat to score another pair and came around herself on a wild pitch to put Houston up 4-1.
2nd | The Cougars added another in the bottom of the second as Cantu crushed her 19th career home run over the left-field fence to give Houston a four-run lead.
4th | Houston struck again in the bottom of the fourth. Back-to-back singles from junior Lair Beautae and Kennedy Thomas put runners on the corners and Coleman plated the Cougars' sixth run of the game with a groundout.
5th | The Panthers responded in the fifth. Jaylyn Davis reached on an error, stole second then scored on a single to right-center, cutting their deficit to four.
Houston extended its lead back to five as Kennedy Thomas drove home graduate Jazmyn Rollin to cap the scoring, giving Houston a 7-2 win.
UP NEXT
Houston heads to Provo, Utah, for a three-game series against BYU starting on Thursday. First pitch in the series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. Game two is slated for 6 p.m. CT, Friday, with the finale beginning at 1 p.m. CT, Saturday. All three game will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
