PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball Welcomes #13/13 Baylor on Sunday

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program seeks to add to the win column as it hosts #13/13 Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday inside Fertitta Center for its BLACKOUT game.

All fans are encouraged to wear black as part of the Cougars' blackout in Fertitta Center. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free black t-shirt.

Sunday marks the 49th matchup between Houston and #13 Baylor, first matchup in Houston in over 28 years (W, 83-65, Jan. 27, 1996).

This marks the third all-time meeting between Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Nicki Collen.
In its most recent meeting, Baylor defeated Houston at Foster Pavilion, 87-58 (Jan. 6, 2024).
Houston faces a ranked opponent for the first time at Fertitta Center this season and first time since the 2020-21 season where the Cougars defeated #13 South Florida, 67-49 (Feb. 27, 2021). Houston snapped its four-game losing streak as it captured a 54-46 win over Cincinnati inside Fertitta Center on Tuesday. This marked Houston's first win over Cincinnati at home in 20 years.
Houston's defense came to play as they converted 23 Cincinnati turnovers into 23 points. The Cougars recorded eight blocks, including a season-high four blocks for senior forward Peyton McFarland.
Three Cougars scored in double figures, including senior guard Laila Blair with 15, graduate guard N'Yah Boyd with 11 and senior forward Kamryn Jones with 10.
Blair has scored in double figures in 19 of her 21 games this season.

Graduate guard Britney Onyeje (927) is 73 points away from reaching 1,000 career points with Houston.
Blair is 37 points away from reaching 1,500 career-points, moving her to ninth-all time in program history.
Both Onyeje (199) and Laila Blair (178) have their eyes set on the Houston all-time three-pointers made record of 226 set by Brittney Scott (2007-11).
Onyeje is now second all-time on the three-pointers made list, surpassing Chandi Jones (188, 2000-04).
Blair sits at fourth all-time on the three-pointers made list.
