HOUSTON – The University of Houston women's basketball program continues its homestand as it welcomes Alcorn State at 7 p.m., Thursday inside Fertitta Center for its Mental Health Awareness Night.

THE GAME

Houston and Alcorn State will meet for the seventh time in program history on Thursday.
The Cougars lead the all-time series, 6-0.
Head Coaches Ronald Hughey and Nate Kilbert meet for the first time.
Hughey has faced Alcorn State once in his career with an 85-70 victory inside Fertitta Center (Dec. 28, 2016).
Alcorn State is one of two SWAC opponents the Cougars will face this season (Mississippi Valley State). Hughey is 4-1 all-time against SWAC opponents.

SCOUTING THE LADY BRAVES

Alcorn State is coming off a 55-74 loss at Nicholls on Tuesday.
Zy'Nyia White leads the Lady Braves in scoring at 11.2 points per game, and Destiny Brown follows with 10.7 points per game.
Nakia Cheathman is the leading rebounder for Alcorn State with 7.6 rebounds a game, while Brown is averaging 7.3 boards.

LAST TIME OUT

With two seconds left in the game, redshirt senior guard Leilani Augmon knocked down two free throws as the University of Houston Women's Basketball team defeated Houston Christian, 54-52 on Sunday afternoon inside Fertitta Center.
Graduate guard Eylia Love led Houston in scoring with 14 points while redshirt sophomore guard Gigi Cooke posted a career high with five assists and five rebounds.

Houston returns All-Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention selection Laila Blair for the 2024-25 season. » The Cougars return five players from the 2023-24 roster: Kierra Merchant, Gigi Cooke, Laila Blair, Avalon Miller and Peyton McFarland.
Houston welcomes transfers Leilani Augmon (Troy), Summer Bostock (Maryland), Ashley Chevalier (Texas Tech) and Eylia Love (Louisville) to the squad this season.
Redshirt senior forward Avalon Miller and senior guards Maliyah Johnson and Kateri Poole will miss the season after suffering season-ending injuries.
Assistant Coach Chynna Grimes will miss the first two months of the season after the arrival of her daughter, Capri, on Nov. 4.
