
Swimming & Diving Splits Results: Falls to #13 LSU, Downs Tulane

Cougars collect 14 podiums as team picks up first head-to-head win of the season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team picked up its first head-to-head win of the season against Tulane, 187-113, but fell to #13 LSU, 190-110, at CRWC Natatorium as part of a tri-meet on Saturday morning.
Houston clinched 14 podiums during the meet while two student-athletes earned NCAA Cuts and three moved up program Top 10 times lists.
Freshman Lottie Cullen again shined in the backstroke events. The Belfast, Northern Ireland, native finished third with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:56.46 in the 200-yard backstroke to move to fifth on Houston's top times list. Having already secured a B-Cut time and a program record in the 100-yard backstroke against Texas A&M, Cullen took first again in the event this week, touching the wall in 52.33. Meanwhile, sophomore Elizabeth Jimenez moved to eighth on Houston's top times list with a 54.44 in the event.
Fifth-year Emilia Waters picked up her second NCAA Zone Cut of the year, this time in the 3-meter with a score of 286.55 for a fourth-place finish. Waters now has Zone Cuts in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Ahead of her, fifth-year Hedda Grelz placed second (306.60) while sophomore Michelle McLeod finished third (288.35).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, sophomore Evelyn Entrekin posted the ninth-best time in program history with a 2:14.07 for third place. In the other breaststroke event, senior Henrietta Fangli started a Houston 1-2 in the event, securing the win with a time of 1:00.31. Behind her, Entrekin posted a time of 1:00.75 for second place.
The Cougars again claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior Adelaide Meuter took the victory with a time of 54.28 with senior Abbie Alvarez placing second with a time of 54.58.
Sophomore Sydney Nethercutt earned second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:02.55), improving her collegiate-best time while remaining in 10th on Houston's Top 10 list. Junior Goupil also improved her collegiate best time to 50.34 in the 100-yard freestyle, remaining in eighth on the program's best times list.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Cullen, Fangli, junior Noor El Gendy and Goupil clinched a second-place showing with a time of 1:39.95. Closing out the podium finishes for Houston in swimming events, Meuter claimed second (1:59.79) in the 200-yard butterfly with El Gendy finishing just behind her in third (2:00.21).
Grelz capped the day for the Cougars with a third-place finish in the 3-meter, earning a score of 279.05.
