Cougars host mid-season invite to close out 2024 fall schedule
HOUSTON – The RV University of Houston Swimming & Diving team wraps up its fall slate with the return of the Phill Hansel Invitational, running Wednesday through Friday at CRWC Natatorium. Attendance is free for the public.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Wednesday: 200 Free Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, 400 Medley Relay, 1-meter diving
Thursday: 200 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Free Relay, 3-meter diving
Friday: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle Relay, Platform diving
Bolded events will have preliminary heats earlier in the day. For swimming, there will be five final heats for each event. Diving will have championship finals for the top eight from preliminaries with the next eight competing in the consolation finals.
Swimming prelims start at 10 a.m. each day with diving prelims following immediately after. Diving consolation finals begin right after prelims conclude. The day's final heats begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 4 p.m. on Friday. The diving finals will begin during the break prior to the final relay of the day. The 1,650-yard freestyle will also occur after morning preliminary heats on Friday.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston split its results in a tri-meet, defeating Tulane, 187-113, but falling to #13 LSU, 190-110. The Cougars clinched 14 podiums during the meet while two student-athletes earned NCAA Cuts and three moved up program Top 10 times lists. Freshman Lottie Cullen earned her second Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week award after earning a NCAA B-Cut in the 200-yard backstroke and winning the 100-yard backstroke while fifth-year Emilia Waters clinched her second NCAA Zone Cut, this time in the 3-meter.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
While the team is receiving votes in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America Coaches Poll, multiple student-athletes have times that rank near the top in their respective events.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Cullen, senior Henrietta Fangli, junior Noor El Gendy and junior Liya Goupil swam the 12th fastest time in the country (second fastest in the Big 12) this season while Cullen's time of 52.29 ranking as the 23rd quickest time while also leading the Big 12.
Joining them in the national rankings, junior Virag Peter's mark of 2:11.60 in the 200 breaststroke is the 28th quickest time in the NCAA while Fangli and sophomore Evelyn Entrekin have the 24th and 37th fastest times in the 100 breaststroke, respectively. Cullen also has the 48th fastest time in the 200 backstroke.
NCAA CUTS
Seven student-athletes have earned NCAA Cuts in their respective events this season. Three divers have claimed seven NCAA Zones Cuts across the three diving events. Fifth-year Hedda Grelz and sophomore Michelle McLeod clinched Zone Cuts in all three diving events while Waters secured an NCAA Zone Cut in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.
Cullen (100, 200 backstroke), Fangli and Entrekin (100 breaststroke) and Peter (200 breaststroke) have earned B-Cuts in swimming events this season.
