Senior guard Laila Blair leads Cougars for second-straight game
WACO, Texas – Senior guard Laila Blair posted 17 points and four rebounds in the University of Houston Women's Basketball's, 87-58 loss against #6/9 Baylor inside Foster Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
With the win against Houston (9-5, 0-3 Big 12), Baylor (14-0, 3-0 Big 12) reached its second-best start in program history and are the only undefeated team in the Big 12.
Blair led the Cougars in scoring in back-to-back games with 17 points, her ninth-straight game in double figures. The Houston native hit three of the Cougars' seven 3-pointers against the Bears.
Baylor dominated Houston from the start, opening up a 28-14 lead after the first quarter. The Cougars kept it close in the second quarter, as Blair and junior forward Maliyah Johnson posted five points each.
The Bears made 11 of 13 shots in the third quarter to push their lead to 74-44. After trailing by as many as 35 late in the fourth, Houston went on a 7-1 run to trim Baylor's lead down to 29 points.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of Fertitta Center for a two-game homestand as they take on BYU at 7 p.m., Wednesday for First Responders Day, followed by a 2 p.m., Saturday, matchup against #23 TCU.
