Houston Falls on the Road Against Texas Tech

Cougars continue road swing Saturday at UCF
LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program dropped a 66-48 decision against Texas Tech on Wednesday evening inside United Supermarkets Arena.
Houston (11-8, 2-6 Big 12) posted 11 steals compared to six for Texas Tech (15-6, 4-4 Big 12). The Cougars posted four 3-pointers and held the Lady Raiders to a season-low 18.8% from behind the arc (3-of-16).
Texas Tech's Jordyn Merritt led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, while senior guard Laila Blair scored 17 for the Cougars, her 17th game in double figures this season.
After a slow start from both teams, Blair opened the score with a layup. Graduate guard Britney Onyeje knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to close out the first quarter as the Cougars trailed by six.
Texas Tech's Loghan Johnson posted six of her 15 points in the second quarter to expand the Lady Raiders' lead by 10. Graduate guard N'Yah Boyd knocked down a triple at the buzzer to cut Texas Tech's lead down, 33-26.
The Lady Raiders went on a 6-0 run to open the third quarter as freshman guard Kierra Merchant broke the run with a fast-break layup. As both teams exchanged points, Texas Tech took control of the game as Kilah Freelon scored for the 50-38 lead at the end of the third.
Houston opened the final frame as Blair scored two from the charity stripe to cut the deficit to 10, but an 11-2 Texas Tech run would seal the game for the Lady Raiders.

The Cougars head to Orlando, Fla., to face UCF at 1 p.m., CT, Saturday inside Addition Financial Arena.
