Houston Drops Wednesday Road Contest at rv/rv West Virginia

Cougars return to Fertitta Center to host Oklahoma at 6 p.m., Saturday
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program fell to rv/rv West Virginia, 80-39 on Wednesday evening inside WVU Coliseum.
Houston (11-6, 2-4 Big 12) was led by junior forward Maliyah Johnson with nine points and six rebounds as the Cougars dropped its fourth road game this season. West Virginia (15-2, 4-2 Big 12) had four players in double figures, led by junior guard Ja'Naiya Quinerly with 18 points.
Houston struggled offensively out of the gates, missing 13 of its shots in the first quarter. West Virginia's Quinerly posted 11 points in the first frame to take a 17-0 lead.
After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Johnson recorded a three-point play early in the second quarter to get the Cougars on the board. The Mountaineers continued their hot start as it jumped out to a 35-8 lead to end the first half.
Houston's offense started to find its footing, scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 17 points in the fourth. Redshirt senior guard Shalexxus Aaron had six of her eight points in the final frame.
