Cougars open 2024 with test in dual meet against ranked Aggies
HOUSTON – After closing 2023 in College Station, the University of Houston Swimming & Diving program hosts Texas A&M for a dual meet at the CRWC Natatorium at 1:30 p.m., Thursday.

The duel marks the first of three consecutive home meets for Houston in the lead up to the Big 12 Conference Championships from Feb. 27-March 2, hosted by West Virginia. The Cougars face off against Rice and Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 26 before hosting SMU on Feb. 3 in Houston's senior meet.Â

LAST TIME OUT
Houston competed against multiple ranked foes at the Art Adamson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. The Cougars had five swimmers earn an NCAA B-Cut and five record times that place them in the Top 10 all-time at Houston.Â

The Cougars finished in fourth at the invitational behind the Aggies, #23 UCLA and rv LSU.Â

BIG 12 HONORS
Two Cougars have earned weekly honors from the Big 12 this season. Elizabeth Jimenez picked up the team's first honors as Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 11 following a pair of Top 10 time at the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational.Â

After finishing as the Houston Diving Invitational's top diver, fifth year Chase Farris was selected as the Big 12 Diver of the Week on Oct. 18. Farris earned the top spot in both the 1-meter and platform competitions while also finishing second in the 3-meter event.Â

NCAA CUTS
Houston's six divers have earned a combined 15 NCAA Zone Cuts this season. Farris, Josie Graves, Hedda Grelz and Michelle McLeod have captured qualifications in all three diving events. Emilia Waters has Zone Cuts in the 1-meter and 3-meter events while Alexa Massari has a Zone Cut in the platform competition.

Additionally, four swimmers have combined for five NCAA B-Cut times in three events. Henrietta Fangli has a cut time in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke while Evelyn Entrekin also has a cut time in the 100 breaststroke. Alondra Ortiz and Adelaide Meuter both earned B-Cuts in the 200-yard butterfly.Â

PAN AM GAMES
The Cougars had three representatives at the Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile with competitions running from Oct. 21 through Oct. 25.Â

Ortiz (Costa Rica) earned two A Finals appearances, finishing sixth in the 200-meter butterfly and seventh in the 400-meter individual medley. She also placed 17th in the 200-meter individual medley.

Jimenez (Dominican Republic) and Danielle Titus (Barbados) both swam in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. Jimenez finished 19th and 20th in the events while Titus took 20th and 24th, respectively.
