Cougars tie best six-game start in program history with Sunday victory
Houston (5-0-1) was led in scoring by seven different Cougars, led by Nadia Kamassah with three shots. Houston outshot the Bulldogs 24-7, with 14 shots on goal.
Louisiana Tech (2-3-1) got on the board early in the seventh minute as Lauren Egbuloniu scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs.
The Cougars quickly found the equalizer in the 11th minute with senior midfielder Caitlyn Matthews setting up the assist and junior defender Sofia Weber heading the ball into the net. This marks Weber's second goal of the season.
With 1:02 left in the half, junior defender Alexis Fowlkes broke the stalemate, scoring her first career goal to give the Cougars the 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Junior midfielder Juliet Moore began the counterattack for the Houston, setting up the assist for graduate forward Allie Byrd to open the scoring in the second half.
In the 63rd minute, freshman midfielder Aryanna Jimison chipped the ball toward senior forward Maddie Bowers, who scored her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 4-1.
Three minutes later, Kamassah found the fifth goal of the match for Houston, assisted by sophomore forward Cameryn Maddox and freshman midfielder Talia Feigin.
With less than three minutes left of action, Feigin and Jimison joined in on the scoring action, earning their first career goals to seal the victory for the Cougars, with Jaden Masters, Charlotte Richardson and Cassidy Hoang registering their first career assists.
Making her fifth start of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich brought her season save total up to 23 with one save in the match.
Freshman Kyrsten Kizer picked up a yellow card in the 30th minute and Louisiana Tech's Josie Studer was sent off with a red card in the 70th minute.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will remain home as they face Houston Christian at 7 p.m., Thursday, for Pups at the Pitch. Fans in attendance with a dog will receive a half-priced ticket and a dog bowl while supplies last.
Houston then will close out its non-conference schedule as it hosts Texas State at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, for Senior Night. The Cougars will honor their senior class prior to the start of the match.

Students can claim one ticket at no cost to all home soccer matches. Students can claim their tickets by presenting their student IDs at the gate.
Single game tickets are now available to purchase for $10 per match. Season tickets are also still available to purchase for only $42 with family plans (four season tickets) starting at $100.
Mobile tickets can also be purchased at game time at the ticket booth located at Schroeder Park (baseball), adjacent to the Carl Lewis International Complex.
