Soccer Wins Sixth Consecutive Game for Best Start in Program History

Houston defeats Houston Christian, 5-1 on Thursday
HOUSTON– The University of Houston Soccer program posted a new program record for its best seven-game start with a 5-1 victory against Houston Christian on Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The streak surpasses the 5-0-1 start in 2021, a team that went on to set a program record of wins in a season with 13.
Houston (6-0-1) was led in scoring by forwards Cameryn Maddox and Maddie Bowers with two goals and midfielder Juliet Moore with one.
Houston Christian (1-4-1) found its lone goal of the match as midfielder Alexa Huerta found the back of the net via a penalty kick after a foul inside the box in the 66th minute.
Houston started the match with its fastest goal of the season as Maddox opened the score for the Cougars in the second minute of action.
The goals did not end there for Maddox, as the sophomore forward found the back of the net in the 10th minute of play off an assist from midfielder Caitlyn Matthews to score her seventh goal and to post her third brace this season.
The Cougars continued knocking on Houston Christian's door and recorded their third goal of the evening in the 44th minute, with graduate forward Allie Byrd setting up the assist and Moore sending the shot past goalkeeper Chloe Bagshaw. This marks Moore's first goal as a Cougar.
Houston kept the action going in the second half after Bowers converted a penalty kick into the bottom right of the net in the 48th minute, giving the Cougars the 4-0 lead.
Less than a minute later, Bowers scored Houston's fifth goal of the match from outside the box to pick up her first career brace.
Junior Ramsey Davis picked up a yellow card in the 35th minute and Houston Christian's Emma Smith picked up a yellow in the 48th minute.
UP NEXT
Houston will close out its non-conference schedule as it hosts Texas State at 7 p.m., Sunday, for Senior Night.
The Cougars will honor their seniors Ava Alaniz, Maddie Bowers, Allie Byrd, Cordelia Cross, Mikaela Gracia, Nadia Kamassah, Caitlyn Matthews and Genaye Sanders prior to the start of the match.
The Cougars then will open Big 12 Conference play as they head to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech at 7 p.m., Thursday.

Students can claim one ticket at no cost to all home soccer matches. Students can claim their tickets by presenting their student IDs at the gate.
Single game tickets are now available to purchase for $10 per match. Season tickets are also still available to purchase for only $42 with family plans (four season tickets) starting at $100.
Mobile tickets can also be purchased at game time at the ticket booth located at Schroeder Park (baseball), adjacent to the Carl Lewis International Complex.
