Cougars Win Eighth-Straight Conference Series

Houston wins every conference series, first time in program history
The Cougars (33-21, 17-6), were the only team in the American Athletic Conference to win every single series this season but ultimately finished second in the conference behind East Carolina. Cincinnati (24-31, 10-14) clinched the fifth seed going into the conference tournament.
Houston's Brendan O'Donnell (4-0) stayed undefeated in regular season play pitching 0.2 innings allowing no hits and one strikeout to earn the win. Sophomore Graysen Drezek posted his first save of the season tossing 1.0 scoreless innings. Cincinnati's Nick McClanahan (0-3) tossed 2.2 innings allowing one run for his second-straight loss.
Game Highlights:
- With the series win against Cincinnati on Saturday, Houston has won all of its conference series (min. 3 series) in a season for the first time in program history. The 2023 season marks the 77th year of baseball dating to 1947.
- With the win, the Cougars solidified its second-place finish in the American Athletic Conference and the No. 2 seed going into the conference tournament.
- Malachi Lott hit his second home run in as many days while Justin Murray tabbed his eighth of the season.

4th | After three scoreless innings, Cincinnati made the first move bringing across a lone run in the top of the inning. Houston quickly countered as sophomore outfielder Malachi Lott hit his second home run in as many days scoring both Justin Murray and Anthony Tulimero to make the score 3-1.
5th | However, the Bearcats quickly took the lead in the top of the next frame hitting their own three-run home run to push the score to 4-3. But, a solo shot to left field from Murray tied the game at 4-all before junior designated hitter Dylan Post walked and Tulimero doubled to put the Cougars in scoring position. Lott followed his home run with a single in his next at bat to bring Post home and Tulimero crossed the plate on a Cincinnati throwing error for the 6-4 advantage.
8th | After Cincinnati tabbed two runs to tie the game in the sixth and eighth inning, the Cougars forged ahead in the bottom of the 8th. With the bases loaded, junior Zach Arnold rocketed a ball to the third baseman bringing freshman second baseman Thomas Lyssy home for the eventual winning run at 7-6.

With the regular season complete, Houston turns its attention to the American Athletic Conference Tournament in Clearwater, Florida. As the solidified two-seed, the Cougars will play on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT against the seven-seed Tulane at BayCare Ballpark. More information about the tournament can be found here.
