Junior Santiago De La Fuente with Final-Round 70 Tuesday to lead Cougars and tie for 17th
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – University of Houston Men's Golf senior Santiago De La Fuente lowered his score for the second straight round with a Final-Round 70 Tuesday to lead the Cougars and tie for 17th with a score of even-par 216 at Traditions Club.
Starting his day off No. 10 on the 7,227-yard, par-72 course, De La Fuente sank two birdies in a 3-hole stretch midway through his first nine and overcame a bogey at No. 17 with a birdie on No. 18.
After two bogeys on the first three holes of his second nine, the Guadalajara, Mexico, native drained back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 and closed the tournament with four straight pars. It was the eighth tournament in which he led the Cougars this season.
Sophomore Wolfgang Glawe tied for 22nd at 217 while sophomore Jacob Borow tied for 34th at 220. Super senior Braxton Watkins tied for 41st at 221 with senior Austyn Reily tying for 55th at 225. Playing as an individual, senior Marcus Wochner tied for 46th at 222.
As a team, the Cougars posted a total of 290 and tied for sixth with Sam Houston with a 54-hole total of 871.
#33 Louisville won the team championship with a score of 852 to finish three shots ahead of host and 15th-ranked Texas A&M. #41 LSU finished third at 860 with #38 TCU (863) and #24 Baylor (865) rounding out the Top Five leaders.
Individually, Louisville's Max Kennedy earned medalist honors with a score of 209 to finish one shot ahead of Luke Haskew (LSU), Jiri Zuska (Louisville), Gustav Frimodt (TCU) and Phicaksn Maichon (Texas A&M). Javier Delgadillo (New Mexico State) and Sebastian Moss (Louisville) tied for sixth at 211.

Following the Aggie Invitational, the Cougars enter the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., on April 21-23.
From there, Houston looks to compete in NCAA Regional play. The 2023 NCAA Regionals will be held at six sites across the nation on May 15-17: Auburn University Club (Auburn, Ala.); Eagle Eye (Bath, Michigan); Bear's Best Las Vegas (Las Vegas); The Institute Golf Club (Morgan Hill, Calif.); Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (Norman, Okla.) and The Cliffs at Keowee Falls (Salem, S.C.).
The Top Five teams and the low individual not on a qualifying team at each NCAA Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
