Five Divers Set for NCAA Zone Diving Championships

Cougars prepared to compete at the University of Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS – Five University of Houston divers are set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships, taking place Tuesday through Thursday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Over the three days of the event, Jolie Blodgett, Chase Farris, Josie Graves, Hedda Grelz and Emilia Waters will represent the Cougars with hopes of qualifying for the 2023 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Houston leads the American Athletic Conference with five qualifiers, followed by North Texas with three and SMU with one.
Preliminary action begins at 11 a.m., each day. The top 18 divers in each event will move onto finals. The top-10 finishers in the platform and the top-nine finishers in the 1-meter and 3-meter will advance to the 2023 NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships March 15-18 in Knoxville Tenn., at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
After being named the 2023 American Swimming & Diving Championships Most Outstanding Diver of the Year, taking first place in the 3-meter and placing second in both the 1-meter and platform, Farris will represent the Houston in the 3-meter and platform in Minneapolis.
This marks the Mission Viejo, Calif., natives fourth appearance at the competition. She is in search of her third-straight NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships appearance. Farris qualified to the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in the platform and placed 35th. In 2021, Farris also qualified to the platform, finishing right outside the top-16 in 18th-place.
Blodgett will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter, marking her third appearance as a Cougar at the Zone D Championships.
Grelz will be making her third appearance, competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Additionally, Waters and Graves will be making their second appearance competing in both the 3-meter and platform.
